Questions
What is the VAT rate in Portugal?
The standard IVA rate in Portugal is 23%. Reduced rates of 13% and 6% also apply. Typically food, books, medicines, passenger transport and cultural admissions.
How do I add 23% VAT to a price?
Multiply the net amount by 1.23. For example, 100,00 € net becomes 123,00 € gross, of which 23,00 € is VAT.
How do I remove 23% VAT from a total?
Divide the gross amount by 1.23 — do not subtract 23%. A 123,00 € gross total contains 23,00 € of VAT, leaving 100,00 € net. Subtracting 23% instead would give the wrong answer.
