Questions

What is the VAT rate in Austria?

The standard Umsatzsteuer (USt) rate in Austria is 20%. Reduced rates of 13% and 10% also apply. Typically food, books, medicines, passenger transport and cultural admissions.

How do I add 20% VAT to a price?

Multiply the net amount by 1.2. For example, € 100,00 net becomes € 120,00 gross, of which € 20,00 is VAT.

How do I remove 20% VAT from a total?

Divide the gross amount by 1.2 — do not subtract 20%. A € 120,00 gross total contains € 20,00 of VAT, leaving € 100,00 net. Subtracting 20% instead would give the wrong answer.

What is VAT called in Austria?
