Add a watermark to a PDF — without losing the text layer

Stamp CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT or any text diagonally across every page of a PDF. The watermark is drawn on top of the existing pages, so the text underneath stays selectable and searchable.

Runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

All processing happens in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.

The watermark is drawn on top of the existing pages, so unlike tools that rebuild the document as images, the text underneath stays selectable, searchable and accessible. That also means a determined person can remove a watermark with the right software — treat it as labelling, not protection. The standard PDF fonts cover Latin text; emoji and non-Latin scripts are not available.

How to use

  1. Drop in a PDF. The original file on disk is never modified.
  2. Type the watermark text. CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, PAID, a client name — anything short.
  3. Set angle, size and opacity. Diagonal at low opacity reads clearly without hiding the content.
  4. Download the stamped copy. Every page carries the mark.

Questions

Does watermarking ruin the text layer?

Not here. Many online tools rebuild the document as images, which destroys selection and search. This tool draws the watermark as an extra layer on the existing pages — the document underneath is untouched, stays selectable, and prints at full quality.

Can a watermark be removed?

By someone determined with the right software, yes — it is an object in the file like any other. Treat a watermark as labelling that prevents honest mistakes (an old draft circulating as final, a paid invoice reused), not as security against a motivated adversary.

Why does my non-English text fail?

The stamp uses the PDF standard fonts, which cover Latin-script characters only — no Cyrillic, CJK, Arabic or emoji. Accented European characters (é, ö, å) work fine.

Watermark every page, or just some?

Every page, by design — that is what CONFIDENTIAL and DRAFT stamps are for. If you need one mark on one page (a signature, a stamp image), the sign PDF tool places an image exactly where you choose instead.

Does it work on password-protected PDFs?

Not directly — an encrypted file cannot be edited without its password. Run it through the unlock tool first (you need the password), then watermark the unlocked copy.
