Rates are mid-market reference rates updated once a day, provided by Rates By Exchange Rate API. They are not the rate you will actually get: banks and card issuers add a spread, typically 0.5–3%, and airport bureaux considerably more. Use these for estimating, not for reconciling a transaction.
How to use
- Enter an amount. The conversion updates as you type, using rates already loaded.
- Pick the currencies. Common ones are grouped at the top of each list.
- Check the rate. The unit rate and its inverse are both shown, along with common amounts.
Questions
Why does this tool use the internet when nothing else here does?
Because exchange rates change daily and cannot be derived on your device. The page requests the current rate table, which means your IP address reaches the rate provider. The amounts you type are never transmitted — the conversion itself happens locally once the rates arrive.
How often do rates update?
Once a day. The table is cached in your browser for 12 hours, so opening the tool again usually makes no request at all. Press Refresh rates to force a new fetch.
Why is this not the rate my bank gave me?
These are mid-market rates — the midpoint between buy and sell, and the rate you see quoted in the news. Banks and cards add a spread on top, typically 0.5–3%; airport bureaux take considerably more. Use these for estimating, not for reconciling a statement.
Can I use it offline?
Only if rates were fetched earlier and are still within the 12-hour cache. Otherwise this is the one page here that will not work without a connection.
