Calculations run in your browser. Check your course’s grading rules. Weighted mode counts only graded categories; empty categories are not zeros. The lowest score is chosen by percentage. Points mode gives more weight to assignments worth more points. Your course may use different rules for these, rounding or letter grades.
How to use
- Pick a mode. Points for a simple total, Weighted when your syllabus assigns percentages to categories, Final exam to work backwards from a target.
- Enter what you have. Points earned and points possible for each assignment. Add as many rows or categories as you need.
- Set the weights, if any. Copy the category weights from your syllabus. Check any warning about the total before using the result.
- Try the options. Drop the lowest score, or enter a what-if exam mark to see where you would finish.
- Adjust the boundaries. The letter grades default to a common US-style scale. Change them to whatever your institution actually uses.
Questions
How is a weighted grade calculated?
Each category contributes according to its share of the course. An exam worth 60% affects the result more than homework worth 10%. Enter those weights from your syllabus. Categories with no graded work are left out of the current standing.
What happens to a category with no marks yet?
It is left out until it has a mark. An exam you have not taken is not treated as a zero. The result is your standing in the work graded so far, not a prediction of your finished course grade. Your school’s gradebook may apply different rules.
Is points mode just the average of my percentages?
No. It adds earned points and divides by the total available. A 100-point assignment counts more than a 5-point quiz. Use this mode only when your course totals points that way; weighted categories are a different scheme.
How does dropping the lowest score work?
The tool selects the lowest percentage score and identifies the assignment it leaves out. For example, 40 out of 100 is lower than 4 out of 5. Check your syllabus: some courses drop marks by a different rule or only within particular categories.
Why does it say my target is impossible?
The required exam mark is above 100% under the figures you entered. Check your current grade and the exam’s weight first. Extra credit, a resit or a curve are not included; only your instructor can tell you how those would affect the course.
Are these results official?
No. Course rules about missing work, rounding, dropped marks and letter boundaries can change the official grade. Use this to check a calculation or plan a target, then compare it with your syllabus and gradebook.
Is my data saved?
The tool does not upload or save your marks. Copy any result you need before leaving. Browser form restoration or a downloaded copy may retain information on your device; page analytics are described separately in the privacy policy.
