Decimal terms are scaled to whole numbers before simplifying, so 1.5 : 2.5 correctly becomes 3 : 5.
How to use
- Enter at least two terms. Separate non-negative values with spaces, commas or colons. Use a decimal point for fractional terms.
- Read the ratio and shares. A mix of 2 : 3 has five parts in total: the shares are 40% and 60%.
- Use the proportion panel for scaling. For 2 : 3 = 4 : x, enter a = 2, b = 3 and c = 4. The missing value is 6.
Questions
Can I use pixel dimensions?
Yes. Enter width and height in the same unit: 1920 : 1080 simplifies to 16 : 9. A 2560 : 1600 image simplifies to 8 : 5, equivalent to the commonly used label 16 : 10.
Can the terms contain decimals?
Yes. For example, 1.5 : 2.5 becomes 3 : 5. Simplification uses up to six decimal places, so very small differences beyond that precision may be lost.
Why is the first share of 2 : 3 not two thirds?
Two thirds compares the first part with the second. A share of the whole compares it with all five parts, so it is 2/5, or 40%. Use positive totals when interpreting the percentage shares.
