Questions
Does cropping lose quality?
The kept area is not resampled, but saving re-encodes the file — so a JPEG loses a little to compression even though you removed nothing from what remains. Export as PNG if you need the pixels untouched.
Which aspect ratio should I use?
1:1 for profile pictures and most feed posts, 16:9 for video thumbnails and slides, 9:16 for stories and reels, 4:3 or 3:2 for print. The presets centre the largest rectangle of that shape that fits.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. It is decoded and redrawn by your browser, so it never touches a network connection. That matters for anything personal.
What happens to EXIF data?
It is dropped, including camera model and GPS location. Rotation is applied to the pixels first, so the result looks correct everywhere.
