The code is generated in your browser. Anyone who scans it can read its contents, including a Wi-Fi password. SVG scales cleanly for print; PNG works in many upload forms. Test the saved code at its intended size.
How to use
- Choose what the code contains. Select a type and fill in its fields. Include https:// for a web link. Copy encoded text lets you inspect the text prepared for the code.
- Keep the code readable. Start with M — Medium error correction, dark Foreground and light Background. Leave Wide quiet zone on to keep a clear border around the pattern.
- Download the image. Use Download SVG for a scalable print asset or Download PNG for an image upload. Image size sets the PNG dimensions, from 64 to 2048 pixels.
- Scan the saved version. Compare the decoded text with your original and try the intended action. For print, test at the size you plan to use, with the border intact.
Questions
Will the code expire, and can I edit it later?
The image has no built-in expiry and ToolsNow does not add a redirect URL. Its encoded content is fixed once downloaded. A linked page can still move or expire, and a Wi-Fi password can change; changing those details may mean generating and distributing a new code.
Which error correction level should I choose?
Start with M. Higher levels add redundancy but can make the pattern denser at the same image size. H is often described as about 30% error recovery, but that refers to encoded codewords, not a promise that any 30% of the image can be covered. Keep the corner patterns and border clear, and test the finished code.
Why will a clear-looking code not scan?
It may be too small for the amount of data, have too little contrast, or lack its quiet border. Keep the foreground dark and background light, leave Wide quiet zone on, and try a larger print or shorter payload. A preview on a large screen does not confirm readability on a small label.
Can I include emoji, accents or non-Latin names?
The current encoder does not reliably preserve non-ASCII text. Those characters can scan back incorrectly even when the preview looks normal. Compare the decoded download with the original and do not use a code whose contents have changed.
Which Wi-Fi settings does the preset support?
It writes a WPA-style payload when you enter a password and an open-network payload when you leave it blank. There are no hidden-network, WEP or enterprise-login controls. Check that the decoded settings match the network before distributing the code.
Is a Wi-Fi password protected inside the QR code?
No. Anyone who can read the code can recover the password. Generation happens in your browser without uploading the entered details, but that does not make the downloaded image confidential or encrypted. Page analytics are separate from the code’s contents.
